Golden Valley Goes Down To Bishop Diego 37-6 in D6 Championship

With the Division 6 Championship on the line the No. 2 ranked Golden Valley Grizzlies hosted No. 1 ranked Bishop Diego Cardinals Friday night at Canyon High School.

Both teams were stopped on their opening drives and were forced to punt the ball, Grizzlies star athlete, De’Gabriel Floyd returned a punt for a touchdown, but was called back due to a special teams blunder on a holding call.

The Grizzlies rallied on the next drive to set up a 19 yard field goal that was blocked by the Cardinals as they took over on on the Golden Valley 9 yard line.

Heading into the 2nd Quarter tied at 0, Bishop Diego QB connected with WR Isiah Veal on a 34 yard touchdown pass to open up the night’s scoring.

Golden Valley answered with a lengthy drive that started on their own 18 yard line after a couple of complete passes by Chevalier to wideouts Lewis and Kaylin.

Unfortunately, with the Grizzlies in the red zone, Cardinal’s defensive back Isiah Veal intercepted a errant pass by Chevalier and returned it to their own 30 yard line.

Heading into halftime the Bishop Diego Cardinals led the Golden Valley Grizzlies, 7-0.

With the beginning of the second half, the Grizzlies returned the kickoff to their own 49 yard line but due to a couple of costly penalties they had to punt the ball.

On 4th down, Golden Valley punter fumbled the ball and the Cardinal’s recovered on the Grizzly 8 yard line.

Taking over on the 8 yard line Bishop Diego was able to go ahead by two touchdowns, 14-0, on a 8 yard TD run by Miller.

Constantly being pressured, GV quarterback Zack Chevalier was under immense pressure the whole game and turned the ball over on the next two drives with an interception and a fumble.

The Grizzlies were able to save face after a 31 yard touchdown run by running back DJ Turner with under a minute left in the 3rd Quarter, but the extra point try was blocked bring the score, 14-6 Bishop Diego.

In the last and final frame of play in the Division 6 Championship game, it was all Bishop Diego.

Scoring on their opening drive of the 4th Quarter with a 50 yard touchdown run by running back Adrian Soracco the Cardinals looked poised to take home the Division 6 title.

After forcing two more Chevalier interceptions and a safety, the Bishop Diego Cardinals were able to take a knee on their last drive as they defeated the Golden Valley Grizzlies, 37-6 to win the Division 6 title.

The Grizzlies season ends in their first championship game at 8-6.
