Reid Soliman, the quarterback at Golden Valley High School, is headed to Graceland University in Iowa to continue his football career.

Soliman threw for 1,065 yards and six touchdowns in his senior season at Golden Valley. Golden Valley was 1-9 overall and 0-5 against the Foothill League last season.

Soliman said he was choosing between Concordia University in Nebraska and Graceland. He decided on Graceland because of the coaches and a chance to be able to start as a freshman.

Two quarterbacks left the Graceland University program at the end of the 2011 season.

“I need to learn the system,” Soliman said. “But I can go and give them some competition.”

He added that his high school career has prepared him to challenge for the starting quarterback spot at Graceland. He was forced to start on the varsity team at Golden Valley as a sophomore.

“I honestly believe that helped me in a positive way,” Soliman said. “I overcame it and I’m really glad I’m moving on to the next level.”

Soliman said he wants to study physical therapy at Graceland and he is excited about attending a school in the Midwest.

“I don’t have an issue getting out of California,” Soliman said. “I just wanted to see what’s out there.”

Graceland had a 1-9 record in 2011. The only win came against Heart of American Athletic Conference opponent Peru State College.
