Golden Valley’s Elisa Pierra Advances To Second Round Of CIF Golf Playoffs

Golden Valley’s Elisa Pierre shot a 1-over 73 in the CIF Southern Section Northern Division Individual Regional golf tournament and advanced to the second round of playoffs.

She was the only golfer from the Foothill League to move past the first round of playoffs at the River Ridge Golf Club in Oxnard.

Her Golden Valley teammate, Justine Reblando, shot a 6-over 78 and was part of a six-player playoff for the final two spots to advance to the second round.

Reblando was eliminated in the second round of the playoff.

In high school cross country, the Canyon and West Ranch girls raced against some of the top teams in Southern California at the Mt. SAC Invitational meet over the weekend.

The Canyon girls were eighth out of 20 teams in the Division I and Division II sweepstake race at Mt. San Antonio College. The West Ranch girls were 16th.

Canyon’s Natalie Rodriguez was 15th in 18 minutes, 16 seconds. West Ranch’s Marisa Magsarili was 27th in 18 minutes, 34 seconds.

The Saugus girls won the Division II sub-sweepstakes race with three runners in the top 10 and all five runners in the top 20.

Samantha Ortega won the race in 16 minutes, 47 seconds.

The Valencia girls were 10th in the Division II sub-sweepstakes race.

The Saugus boys were fourth in the Division II sub-sweepstakes race.

In high school football, Hart is ranked No. 1 in the CIF Southern Section Northern Division poll. The Indians are the only undefeated team ranked in the Northern Division. They are coming off a 38-3 win over Saugus.

The Valencia football team is ranked No. 4 after beating Canyon, 35-28.

Canyon dropped two spots to No. 7 in the Northern Division.

In girls volleyball, Valencia moved up to No. 8 in the Southern Section Division 2 poll.

In girls tennis, Hart is ranked No. 4 in the Southern Section Division 2 poll. Hart is undefeated at 17-0 and won the Foothill League championship with a perfect 10-0 record.

In baseball, the Boston Red Sox won Game 5 of the World Series, 3-1, over the St. Louis Cardinals. The Red Sox lead the series, 3-2.

Game 6 of the World Series is in Boston on Wednesday.

In hockey, the Kings are in Phoenix for a game against the Coyotes. The Kings are coming off a 2-1 shootout win over the Edmonton Oilers on Sunday night.
