Hart Baseball Team Beats Puerto Rico, 10-6, Wins PONY Mustang World Series

khts_sportsThe Hart PONY 10-and-under baseball team won the Mustang World Series in Irving, Texas. Hart beat Puerto Rico, 10-6, in the championship game.

Hart won its third Mustang World Series and its first since 2007. Hart also won the Mustang World Series in 1998.

Hart finished the season with a 32-2 record. After losing its first game in pool play, Hart won four games in a row to win the Mustang World Series.

Hart beat Chesterfield, Va., 6-4, in the semifinals. Cole Roederer was 2-for-2 with a double and drove in three runs in the semifinal game. Hart starter Tim Josten pitched a complete game against Chesterfield.

In auto racing, Canyon High graduate Greg Pursley won the pole for the inaugural NASCAR K&N Pro Series West race at Montana Raceway Park and led the first 18 laps of the race.

But he dropped back midway through the race and was collected in a crash late. He finished 18th.

Eric Holmes won the race, his third of the season. Holmes leads the West Series standings after eight races.

In the Firestone Indy Lights series, the drivers from Bryan Herta Autosport posted a pair of top-five finishes in the Mid-Ohio 100. Stefan Wilson was fourth and Sebastian Saavedra was fifth in the race at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.

Martin Plowman won the race. It was the third top-five finish of the season for Wilson. Saavedra posted his fifth top-five finish of the season.

The Dodgers scored four runs in the first inning and starter Ted Lilly pitched six efficient innings in an 8-3 win over the Washington Nationals.

Jamey Carroll knocked in two runs in the first inning and James Loney added an RBI single.

Lilly gave up three runs on five hits and struck out six for his second win as a Dodger.

Before the game, the Dodgers designated Garrett Anderson for assignment and purchased the contract of Jay Gibbons from the Albuquerque Dukes. Gibbons paid immediate dividends with a pinch-hit RBI single in the sixth inning.

The Dodgers have won two games in a row and four of their last six. They are in fourth place in the National League West standings, seven games behind the San Diego Padres.

The Dodgers travel to Philadelphia for the start of a three-game series with the Phillies tonight. It will be Vicente Padilla for the Dodgers against Kyle Kendrick for the Phillies.
