Hart Baseball Team Hands Saugus First League Loss

Four-way tie for first in Foothill League standings.

The Hart baseball team made things interesting in the Foothill League standings over the weekend. Hart handed Saugus its first league loss on Friday, 3-2, behind a complete game from Josh Wagner. Hart, Saugus, Valencia and West Ranch are tied atop the Foothill League with 2-1 records.

Golden Valley’s hot start was short-lived. After winning its league opener, Golden Valley has lost its last two games. Valencia beat Golden Valley, 11-4. West Ranch topped Canyon, 12-3.

The Valencia and Hart softball teams ended up in the consolation bracket of the Nike Faster to First tournament in Huntington Beach on Saturday.

Valencia won its last game of the tournament, 2-1, over Pacifica. Hart lost to Ayala, 5-4, in its final game of the tournament after posting a 3-2 win over Sunrise Mountain from Arizona.

West Ranch was swept by Chino Hills in a doubleheader. West Ranch lost the first game, 3-2, and the nightcap, 2-1.

The Santa Clarita Christian softball team scored 11 runs in the second inning in a 17-5 rout over Frazier Park.

Golden Valley, Hart and Valencia were three of the 40 high school track teams that competed in the fifth annual Percy Knox Invitational at College of the Canyons. Some highlights: Golden Valley’s Sara Demshki won the 300 hurdles and teammate Dylan Olson won the 110 and 300 hurdle races.

In college baseball, the Master’s College swept a doubleheader against San Diego Christian, winning the first game, 13-10, and the second game, 15-8, on Saturday.
