Hart Baseball Team Needs Extra Innings To Beat Saugus

Trevor Brown drives in winning run in 11th inning.

The Hart baseball team had a two-run lead against Saugus, but needed extra innings to post a 4-3 win on Wednesday. Trevor Brown knocked in the winning run for Hart with an infield single in the 11th inning.

Zach Vincej hit a solo home run for Saugus in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie the game, 3-3. Hart finally broke the tie in the top of the 11th inning and C.J. Millar wiggled out of a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the inning to win it.

The other two Foothill League games weren’t nearly as close. Casey Watkins and Mitchell Thompson each homered for West Ranch in a 15-1 win over Canyon. Robert Wright had a double for Canyon.

Valencia scored six runs in the third inning en route to a 16-3 win over Golden Valley. Brandon Smith was 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs for Golden Valley.

In high school softball, Golden Valley plays Saugus in a game at Central Park. Canyon is at Valencia and West Ranch is at Hart. Valencia and Hart are tied for first in the Foothill League standings, each with 4-1 records. Saugus and Canyon are tied for second place, each with 3-2 records. All games start at 3:15 p.m. today.

Follow the baseball and softball teams from the Foothill League on Facebook.
