Hart Baseball Team Rallies For Win Over Murrieta Valley

khts_sportsThe Hart baseball team scored five runs in the sixth inning in a come-from-behind, 6-5, win over Murrieta Valley in the OC Nissan Tournament.

Luke Persico knocked in two runs with a single in the inning. Alex Tenorio had an RBI triple and Tyler Glasnow drove in the eventual game winner with a pinch hit single.

Hart, the No. 6 team team in the most recent CIF Southern Section Division I poll, will play Palm Desert in the next round of the OC Nissan Tournament today.

Saugus High runner Stephanie Bulder had a good showing in the West Coast Relays at Buchanan High School in Clovis. She won the girls invitational 3,200 and was second in the invitational 1,600.

Teammate Jenna Vincej posted a pair of top-five finishes in the meet. She was third in the 400 and fifth in the 200.

In the Spartan Relays at Rio Mesa High School, West Ranch and Valencia posted some impressive results. The West Ranch girls, led by Ashley Welker, won the 4-by-800 race.

Valencia’s Jasmine Hall and Faith Anumba led the girls to wins in the long-jump and triple-jump relays.

The College of the Canyons men’s golf team won a Western State Conference match at Elkins Ranch Golf Course in Fillmore and improved to 36-0.

James Holley and Derek Larson led COC with even-par 71s. Tyler Schwanz was 1-over par at 72. Aaron West was 3-over par at 74 for COC.

The next conference golf match is at Rio Bravo in Bakersfield on Monday.

It’s a light day of high school sports in Santa Clarita. The Trinity Classical Academy baseball team travels to Vasquez.

The Santa Clarita Christian softball team is on the road for a game against Lennox.

In college baseball, the College of the Canyons baseball team is home for a game against Glendale College.

The College of the Canyons softball team is on the road to play Bakersfield College.

The Lakers will look to rebound after a disappointing loss to the Denver Nuggets that snapped a nine-game winning streak.

The Utah Jazz are at Staples Center for a game against the Lakers tonight. The Jazz have lost eight games in a row. The Lakers have lost only twice since the All-Star break.

Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 tonight.

The University of Connecticut men’s basketball team won the NCAA national championship, 53-41, over Bulter in Houston.

Connecticut won its third national championship all under coach Jim Calhoun. Butler had the worst shooting performance in NCAA championship game history. The Bulldogs shot 18 percent from the field making only 12 of 64 shots.

The Kings were shelled by the San Jose Sharks, 6-1, in a game that saw goaltender Jonathan Quick pulled in the second period.

Michal Handzus scored the lone goal for the Kings. The Sharks blew the game open with four goals in the second period. Kyle Wellwood had a goal and two assists for the Sharks.
