Hart Baseball Team Sweeps Doubleheader Against West Torrance

khts_sportsThe Hart baseball team swept a doubleheader against West Torrance thanks largely to the play of Josh Brown and Tyler Glasnow. Hart won the first game, 4-3, and the second game, 2-0.

Brown scored the winning run in the seventh inning of the first game. Glasnow pitched a three-hit shutout in the second game.

Luke Persico had two hits, drove in a run and scored a run in the first game. Dallas Bacon had two hits in the second game for Hart.

The Valencia boys volleyball team beat Simi Valley in four games. Eric Ensing had 16 kills to lead Valencia.

The West Ranch boys volleyball team beat Rio Mesa in four games. Chet Nordskog led West Ranch with 17 kills.

The Golden Valley boys volleyball team lost to Burroughs in three games.

The Master’s College baseball team lost to Concordia, 10-3. JT Adams homered and Cody Harris was 2-for-3 and scored a run for The Master’s College.

The College of the Canyons baseball team lost to Pierce College, 7-6. COC has lost three games in a row.

Pierce scored five runs in the eighth inning to rally for the win. Jake Jelmini homered in the fifth inning for COC.

The West Ranch softball team swept a doubleheader against La Canada. West Ranch won the first game, 3-0, and the second game, 9-5.

West Ranch starter Bailey Foster won both games. She pitched a complete game shutout with seven strikeouts in the first game. She pitched into the fifth inning of the second game, giving up five runs and striking out four.

West Ranch scored all three of its runs in the fifth inning of the first game. Kylie Sorenson capped the big inning with an RBI double.

West Ranch scored four runs in the second game against La Canada. Taylor Gaff drove in two runs in the inning with a double.

The Hart softball team split a doubleheader against Oak Park. Hart lost the first game, 7-6, but won the night cap, 12-2.

Blake Lewis, Brenna Carlson and Jenae Coleman each homered for Hart in the second game.

The Valencia boys tennis team beat La Canada, 12-6. The No. 1 Valencia doubles team of Russell Del Rosario and David Myers swept their sets.

The USC men’s basketball team begins play in the NCAA tournament against Virginia Commonwealth today.

The two teams are playing for an No. 11 seed in the tournament and the winner will play sixth-seeded Georgetown on Friday in Chicago.

The UCLA men’s basketball team opens the NCAA tournament against Michigan State on Thursday.

The Dodgers beat the Texas Rangers, 7-6, in spring training in Arizona. Juan Uribe drove in three runs for Dodgers. Andre Ethier and Ivan DeJesus each had two hits as the Dodgers broke out of a hitting funk and snapped an eight-game losing streak in the Cactus League.

The Kings beat the Nashville Predators, 4-2. Dustin Brown had a goal and an assist for the Kings. Wayne Simmonds scored the eventual game-winner in the second period.

The Kings return home to Staples Center for a game against the St. Louis Blues on Thursday night.
