Hart Baseball Team Takes Over First Place In Foothill League

khts_sportsThe Hart baseball team is on top of the Foothill League standings after a thrilling, 11-10, win over Saugus and thanks to a Canyon upset over West Ranch.

Trailing 10-7 in the sixth inning, Hart scored four runs to take the lead and win the game.

Baggio Saldivar tied the score with an RBI double in the sixth inning. Connor O’Brien drove in the go-ahead run with a sacrifice fly.

Hart’s Luke Persico and Saldivar each had two hits in the game against Saugus.

Canyon starter Max Weinstein kept the powerful West Ranch bats in check in a complete-game, 4-3, win over the Wildcats.

Chris Serrano was 3-for-4 with an RBI single for Canyon. Jagger Rusconi had two hits for West Ranch.

The Valencia baseball team hit three home runs and beat Golden Valley, 14-5. Trey Williams, Brian Mundell and Lukas Foster each hit two-run homers for Valencia.

The Saugus softball team rallied late and beat Canyon, 13-3. Alanna Layton had two hits and drove in two runs for Saugus. Teammate Alyssa Rodriguez drove in two runs and has seven RBIs in two Foothill League games.

West Ranch’s Julia Lombardi hit a grand slam, had two doubles and drove in seven runs in her team’s 24-1 win over Golden Valley.

Valencia scored two runs in the fifth inning and beat Hart, 5-3. Vikings starter Carly Morternsen earned the win and struck out eight.

In women’s soccer, the Santa Clarita Blue Heat has three new players, including a member of the Panamanian national team.

Taylor Ramirez, Raquel Abrile and Amarelis De Mera will join the Santa Clarita Blue Heat for the 2012 season.

De Mera, a forward on the Panamanian national team, is making her debut in the W-League with the Blue Heat.

Ramirez is a defender on the University of North Carolina soccer team and a member of the United States U-20 national team.

Abrile is from Brazil and played on the Lincoln Memorial University women’s soccer team in Tennessee.

In college baseball, The Master’s College split a doubleheader against Vanguard. The Mustangs, ranked No. 19 in the NAIA, lost the first game, 3-2, but won the nightcap, 14-1.

Chris Talley drove in five runs and was 2-for-5 with two doubles for The Master’s College in the second game.

The Kings are in Vancouver for Game 2 of the NHL Western Conference playoffs against the Canucks tonight. The Kings lead the series, 1-0, after a 4-2 win over the Canucks in the Game 1.

The Dodgers are off to their best start since 1981 after a 3-2 win over the Pirates. The Dodgers have won six of their first seven games and swept the visiting Pirates at Dodger Stadium.

The Dodgers scored three runs in the first inning and Juan Uribe was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

The Dodgers start a weekend series with the Padres tonight at Dodger Stadium. Listen to the game tonight on AM 1220, KHTS. First pitch is at 7:10.
