Hart Baseball Team Wins Wild One Over Canyon

khts_sportsHart’s Tyler Glasnow pitched a game that was something out of “Where the Wild Things Are.”

Hart beat Canyon, 10-0, scoring five runs in the first inning. Kevin Bailey knocked in two runs with a bases-loaded single to give Hart a 5-0 lead.

Glasnow took a no-hitter into the sixth inning and struck out 10 batters before he was lifted for a relief pitcher. He walked seven and hit a batter. Canyon got only one hit in the game, in the seventh inning off Ricky Torres.

The Golden Valley baseball team served notice that it will be a factor in the Foothill League race with an 8-7 win over Saugus. It was the first league win of the season for Golden Valley.

Golden Valley scored five runs in the fifth inning to rally for the win. Josh Smith was 2-for-3 with two triples and drove in two runs for Golden Valley.

Chris Devery hit a three-run home run for Saugus.

The Hart boys volleyball team made easy work of La Canada winning in three games. JJ Mosolf had a game-high 11 kills for Hart. Teammate Taylor Gregory had 15 blocks and six kills.

Setter Chris LeClair made his first start after injuring his ankle earlier this month. He had 26 assists.

The Golden Valley softball team swept a doubleheader against St. Bonaventure. Golden Valley won the first game, 13-11, and the second game, 8-6.

Brandi Melero collected five hits in the two games. She hit a home run, had two triples and two doubles. Golden Valley starter Sydney Herrera won both games. She also had four hits, two of them doubles, in the two games.

The College of the Canyons baseball team beat LA Mission College, 2-1. COC starter Troy Neiman gave up one run in eight innings of work.

Juan Perez knocked in both runs for COC.

The Master’s College baseball team split a doubleheader against Cal Baptist. Cal Baptist won the first game, 8-6. The Master’s College won the second game, 3-2, in 10 innings.

Tanner Leighton scored the game-winning run in the second game on an error in the 10th inning.

Cal Baptist hit three home runs in the first game. Ben Ives knocked in two runs and scored two runs for The Master’s College in the first game.

The Dodgers lost to the Cleveland Indians, 6-1, in spring training in Arizona. Dodgers starter Chad Billingsley got a little roughed up, giving up two runs on two hits in three innings.

Aaron Miles was 2-for-2 for the Dodgers, the only Dodger to collect more than one hit in the game.

The Kings beat the Colorado Avalanche, 4-1, on Saturday night, but lost all-star winger Anze Kopitar to a broken ankle. Kopitar will be out at least six weeks and will most likely miss the playoffs.

The Kings are currently in fifth place in the Western Conference standings. Kopitar would not be able to return to the ice until the Western Conference finals, if the Kings stay alive in the playoffs that long.

The Kings are back on the ice on Tuesday night in Edmonton for a game against the Oilers.

In auto racing, Kevin Harvick won the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Auto Club 400 in Fontana on Sunday.

In the IZOD IndyCar Series, Dario Franchitti won the season-opening Grand Prix of St. Petersburg in Florida.

In the Firestone Indy Lights Series, Duarte Ferreira, driving for Bryan Herta Autosport, finished eighth in St. Petersburg. Bryan Herta Autosport, owned by Valencia’s Bryan Herta, had some more big news for the Indy 500.

Dan Wheldon will drive an entry for Bryan Herta Autosport in the Indianapolis 500 in May. Wheldon won the Indy 500 in 2005, the same year he won the IndyCar Series championship.

The Lakers beat the visiting New Orleans Hornets, 102-86, behind 23 points and 16 rebounds from Pau Gasol.

The Lakers have a few days off before their next game. The Dallas Mavericks visit Staples Center on Thursday night.
