Thursday Scoreboard:

Valencia: 1

9 Hart: 10

The Hart Indians are back on top of the Foothill League, and won it in style with a dominating performance on the mound by Ryan Carolan (complete game, one run on three hits).

Carolan proved himself as the Indians’ ace, going 8-1 during the regular season with an icy 1.65 ERA.

“I didn’t think we played the way we can Tuesday at Valencia,” Hart coach Jim Ozella said after clinching the Foothill League title yesterday.

“Whenever we’ve needed a big day on the mound this season, Carolan has stepped up and delivered a great performance. And he did again today.”

Is was a season finale to forget for the Vikings, who routinely made defensive miscues.

Hart finishes the 19-12 overall and Valencia ends the regular season 14-16. The CIF SS Division I playoffs begin next week.

West Ranch: 7

Golden Valley: 2

The Wildcats have their third consecutive top-2 finish in the Foothill League, one game behind the Indians with an 11-4 record. They go into the playoffs on a three game winning streak.

Cade Nicol looks like the best junior pitcher in the Santa Clarita Valley, capping a strong season with a win and no runs allowed in five and two-third innings. Nicol finishes 7-3 with a 1.74 ERA.

West Ranch is a talented team that can make some in the Division I playoffs with a powerful lineup including Santa Clarita home run king Will Chambers and Ryan Camacho (hitting .388) and Nicol on the mound.

It was a season to forget for the Grizzlies, 0-15 in league play.

Canyon: 4

Saugus: 2

It can’t be understated. The Canyon Cowboys were the most improved team in Santa Clarita in the entire 2017/18 season, going from two wins a season ago to 14 in 2018 and a winning record (14-13).

Junior Charles Harrison pitched a complete game with two hits and two earned runs, striking out seven Centurions.

Canyon is the youngest team in the Foothill League, with mainly sophomores and juniors making up the roster. Watch out for them next season.

For Saugus, it’s a disappointing end to the regular season after an opportunity to finish with a winning record in both league and overall. We’ll find out this weekend if they receive an at-large playoff berth.

Trinity Classical Academy: 13

Lancaster Baptist: 1

The Knights scored nine runs in the first inning en route to the commanding win. They finish second behind Faith Baptist in the Heritage League, and ranked sixth in Division 7, should get a home playoff game in the opening round.

Thursday Scoreboard:

9 Valencia: 9

Canyon: 1

The Vikings closed their second straight undefeated league season in style, and are riding a 14-game winning streak.

With Shea O’Leary as dominant as ever, they look poised for a deep playoff run in Division I.

Hart: 1

Golden Valley: 5

The 2018 Grizzlies make program history as the first team to make the playoffs.

Golden Valley has the ingredients of a team that can do some damage in Division III: a dominant pitcher (Cassidy Cangemi) and an imposing lineup (team batting average of .361).

Will they be the next Golden Valley team to represent the school in a CIF SS Championship?

Saugus: 16

West Ranch: 5

The Centurions head to the playoffs on a three game winning streak with 37 runs scored in those three wins.

CIF SS Division II Playoffs

6 Valencia: 3

Vista Murrieta: 2

Vista rallied from down 2-0 to force the fifth set, but Valencia came alive to close out the match with a 15-6 game to decide the match.

Valencia moves on to the quarterfinals against No. 7 Mission Viejo on Saturday. First serve is at 6:00.

Hart: 0

1 Orange Lutheran: 3

Hart’s season ends at 14-13-1.

College of the Canyons

Cougars Softball opens the SoCal Super Regional tonight at Mt. San Antonio College. First pitch of Game 1 is at 7:00.

Los Angeles Dodgers

The Dodgers fell to 8-10 at home and 16-21 overall after last night’s 4-1 loss to the Cincinnati Reds, despite another solid outing from Walker Buehler (six innings, two earned runs with eight strikeouts).

It was just the eleventh win of the season for the Reds (11-27). Even the Miami Marlins, who are actively trying to lose, have more wins than the Reds.

L.A. better find a way to take the last three of this series over the weekend, or the season will continue to slip away.

Kenta Maeda will be on the mound tonight, first pitch is at 7:10. Listen live on your hometown station, KHTS FM 98.1.
