Hart Boys Basketball Team Passes Test Against Valencia

The Hart boys basketball team was put to the test against Valencia on Tuesday night.

The Indians barely passed the test.

Hart won the game, 59-56, to improve to 8-1 in the Foothill League and stay in a tie for first place.

But the Vikings made it very interesting in the final minute of the game.

Garrett Mike hit a pair of 3-pointers to cut the Hart lead to one point. But Chase White scored a layup for Hart and Luke Maly made a pair of free throws with 0.6 seconds left in the game to seal the victory.

In other Foothill League games, West Ranch beat Golden Valley, 86-76, and is tied with Hart for first place in the Foothill League standings with an 8-1 record.

The Saugus boys beat Canyon, 51-42.

The Trinity boys basketball team beat Faith Baptist, 62-53, in a Heritage League game.

On the girls side, Valencia beat Hart, 67-18. Kalia Summerlin scored 21 points for the Vikings.

The Canyon girls beat Saugus, 63-35.

The West Ranch girls beat Golden Valley, 64-54

In high school soccer, the West Ranch boys tied Golden Valley, 1-1. Wade McMillon scored a goal in the 68th minute for the Wildcats.

The Valencia girls beat Hart, 3-1. Sammi Simon scored a goal and had an assist. Valencia won its first Foothill League championship since 2009.

The Saugus and Canyon girls played to a 1-1 draw.

The West Ranch girls shut out Golden Valley, 1-0.

In college basketball, The Master’s College women beat Concordia, 91-63. Kelly Burns scored 15 points off the bench to lead the Lady Mustangs, ranked No. 10 in the NAIA.

The Master’s College men lost to Concordia, 66-55.

In college baseball, The Master’s College beat Claremont, 6-4, scoring three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take the lead.

Jonathan Popadics tripled and drove in two runs for the Mustangs.

In the NBA, the Lakers, playing without Dwight Howard and Metta World Peace, beat the Brooklyn Nets, 92-83.

The Lakers have won three games in a row on the road and six of their past seven games. Kobe Bryant scored 21 points and had eight rebounds for the undermanned Lakers.

In the NHL, the Kings beat the Columbus Blue Jackets, 4-2. Mike Richards scored his first goal of the season and Justin Williams had three assists for the Kings.
