The Hart-Canyon rivalry heated up a bit last night on the basketball court.
The Hart boys handed Canyon its first Foothill League loss of the season, 59-56, and created a logjam atop the Foothill League standings.
Freshman guard Myles Franklin led Hart with 18 points and paced the Indians through a tight game. Canyon’s Clay Kasdorf led all scorers with 29 points.
Hart snapped Canyon’s 12-game winning streak and gave the Cowboys its first loss since Dec. 10.
Canyon drops into a first-place tie with West Ranch each with 4-1 league records. Hart is in second place at 3-2.

Speaking of West Ranch, the Wildcats beat Valencia, 56-43, behind big nights from Kevin Harris and Bo Vaughn. Harris led West Ranch with 18 points and Vaughn scored 16.
The Saugus boys handed Golden Valley its fifth league loss in a row, 62-41. Matt Coleman scored 15 points for Saugus.
The Trinity boys basketball team beat Hillcrest Christian of Thousand Oaks by 20 points, 63-43. James Brooks had 15 points, 11 rebounds and five blocks.
On the girls side, Canyon stayed undefeated in Foothill League play with a 78-27 win over Hart. Jaya Schultz scored 22 points and Alia McCoy had 20 for Canyon.
The Valencia girls topped West Ranch, 58-51. Ashley Pinsker scored 16 points for Valencia. West Ranch’s Whitney Branham led all scorers with 17 points.
In college basketball, The Master’s College men moved up to No. 10 in the NAIA rankings, then lost to No. 16 Azusa Pacific, 77-63.
Anthony Cammon led The Master’s College with 24 points and six assists.
The Master’s College women lost to No. 12 Azusa Pacific, 77-70. Lena Rivera had another big game for The Master’s College with 16 points.
There is only one high school basketball game on tap for tonight. The Trinity boys host Summit View.
