Finishing the regular season with an overall record of 7-3 (4-1 Foothill League) and winning their last four Foothill League match-ups with their only league loss to Div. 2 power house Valencia, the Hart Indians head into the Div. 3 playoffs on a four-game winning streak after beating Saugus 22-14 in their final game last Friday night.
The Indians will be matched up against the Sierra Canyon Trailblazers 8-2 (2-1 Gold Coast) who’s only losses came to Westlake and the Gold Coast Champions, Paraclete, in the first and last games of the season, respectively.
Head Coach Mike Herrington will lean on senior quarterback and Cal-commit, J.T. Shrout, to take command of the offense while limiting his turnovers will be a major storyline int he game, as he has thrown 20 interceptions on the season so far. It is still unclear whether the Indians will be without leading receiver D.J. Palmer as he suffered a concussion early in the game against Saugus last week and might be held out because of safety
precautions.
Hopefully for the Indians, the combination of Ben Rosen (13 total TDs) out the backfield along with the return of athlete Davon Jones will be enough for the offense to put up points in what has the makings of a shootout.
A big part of stopping the Trailblazers offense will fall on the shoulders of defensive end, C.J. McMullen, who has accrued 17 sacks on the season and has broken the all-time sack record at Hart. He has taken over games several times this season with his relentless pressure on opposing quarterbacks.
This First Round playoff game will be played at Granada Hills HS, with kickoff scheduled for 7:00.
