Hart Football Team Falls To Chaminade In CIF Bowl Game

The Hart football season came to an end in the CIF State South Division II bowl game against Chaminade.

Hart lost to Chaminade, 28-10, at College of the Canyons. The Indians trailed, 7-3, at halftime, but the visiting Eagles took a 28-3 lead into the fourth quarter.

Hart made its deepest playoff run in school history. The Indians won the Southern Section Northern Division championship and made its first appearance in a CIF state bowl game.

Hart finishes with a 12-3 record. Chaminade moves on to play in the CIF State Division II bowl game at the StubHub Center in Carson this weekend.

In cross country, Samantha Ortega from Saugus finished in 15th place at the Foot Locker National Championship meet in San Diego and earned All America recognition.

Ortega, a junior at Saugus High, completed the course at Balbo Park in 17 minutes, 54 seconds.

She is the third runner from the Santa Clarita Valley to earn All America honors in high school. Lauren Fleshman and Dave Hartman, both from Canyon High, also were selected as All Americans.

In college basketball, The Master’s College men beat Bethesda, 71-60, and won their sixth game in a row.

Zach Stalin scored 15 points for the Mustangs. The Master’s College men improved to 9-2.

In high school basketball, the Valencia boys beat Calabasas, 78-76 in overtime, in the third-place game of the Ventura County Classic tournament.

Angel Cardenas scored 21 points for Valencia.

The West Ranch girls lost to Santa Barbara, 65-44, in the championship game of the Rio Mesa Tournament. Whitney Branham scored 28 points for West Ranch.

The Canyon boys won the Canyon Classic tournament for the second year in a row. The Cowboys beat St. Genevieve, 66-48, in the championship game. Marc Cabrera was the MVP of the tournament.

In baseball, the Dodgers retained one infielder, but lost another. The Dodgers resigned third baseman Juan Uribe to a two-year deal worth a reported $15 million.

Second baseman Mark Ellis signed a deal with the St. Louis Cardinals.

In the NHL, the Kings lost to the Chicago Blackhawks, 3-1, and had their six-game winning streak snapped.

Next up for the Kings are the Edmonton Oilers at Staples Center on Tuesday night.
