Hart Football Team Upsets Valencia, Tied For First Place In Foothill League

khts_sportsThe Hart football team is back in the hunt for the Foothill League championship after an upset win against Valencia.

Hart snapped Valencia’s 13-game league winning streak, 19-14, on a last-minute, 40-yard touchdown catch by Tim White.

Valencia took a one-point lead, 14-13, on touchdown by Tedric Thompson with less than two minutes to play in the game.

But Hart returned the ensuing kickoff to its own 43-yard line. The Indians drove to the Valencia 40-yard line to set up the winning touchdown. White tipped a pass from quarterback Connor Wingenroth to himself and sprinted to the end zone.

Hart is now in a tie for first place in the Foothill League with Valencia, Canyon and Saugus.

Saugus beat Golden Valley, 36-27, behind a big game from quarterback Jared Carbajal. He rushed for 118 yards and scored a touchdown. He also threw a touchdown pass to Colton Jackson.

Golden Valley running back Earl Johnson rushed for 165 yards and scored two touchdowns in the loss.

The Canyon football team is having a hard time scoring points all of a sudden. But the Cowboys scored enough to beat West Ranch.

Canyon won, 13-7, after receiver Coley Apsay caught a 5-yard touchdown pass with 17 seconds left in the game.

Apsay caught three passes for 84 yards and quarterback Jonathan Jerozal threw for 205 yards and two touchdowns.

Running back Jeff Coprich scored West Ranch’s only touchdown.

The Santa Clarita Christian football team won its first San Joaquin League game, 39-20, over Fairmont Prep of Anaheim.

Running back Jacob Nogle rushed for 118 yards on 11 carries for Santa Clarita Christian.

The Trinity Classical Academy football team improved to 8-0 with a forfeit win over First Lutheran.

In college football, College of the Canyons lost to Cerritos College, 48-42, in double overtime.

COC running back Matt Bowen gained 84 yards on the ground and scored four touchdowns.

In hockey, the Kings lost to the Colorado Avalanche, 3-2, their second loss in a row. The Kings have lost three of their past four games.

Scott Parse and Anze Kopitar scored for the Kings. But Matt Duchene scored the game-winner for the Avalanche in the third period.
