Hart Football Team Wins Foothill League Opener Against West Ranch

The Hart football team opened Foothill League play with a 38-24 win over West Ranch in a match-up of top 10 teams in the CIF Southern Section Northern Division.

Hart, the No. 1 ranked team in the Northern Division, ran its record to a perfect 6-0. West Ranch, ranked No. 10 in the Northern Division, was handed its second loss of the season.

Hart quarterback Brady White threw three touchdown passes and rushed for a fourth. Receiver Trent Irwin caught all three of White’s TD passes, all in the first half.

In other action from opening night in the Foothill League, Valencia held off Saugus, 38-24, at College of the Canyons in a game heard live on AM 1220, KHTS.

Valencia quarterback Jake Wallace threw for 296 yards and two touchdowns. Running back Stone Jackson rushed for 68 yards and two touchdowns for Valencia, ranked No. 5 in the Northern Division.

The Canyon football team won its league opener, 48-7, over Golden Valley.

Myron McAfee rushed for 96 yards and two touchdowns for Canyon, ranked No. 6 in the Northern Division.

The Trinity Classical Academy football team beat Desert Christian, 48-0, in a Heritage League game.

The Santa Clarita Christian football team shut out Fairmont Prep from Anaheim, 57-0, in the San Joaquin League opener.

The College of the Canyons football team beat Antelope Valley College, 37-14, and won its fifth game in a row.

The Cougars are ranked 11th in the state and have a 5-1 record.

In golf, Valencia High graduate Max Homa finished in a tie for ninth place in his professional debut at the Fry’ Open at the CordeValle Golf Club in San Martin.

He was 12-under and finished five shots behind Jimmy Walker, the winner of the Fry’ Open.

In hockey, the Kings shut out the Florida Panthers, 3-0. Daniel Carcillo scored his first goal as a King and had an assist.

Next up for the Kings are the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday.

In baseball, the Boston Red Sox beat the Detroit Tigers, 6-5, in Game 2 of the American League Championship Series. Big Papi, David Ortiz, hit a grand slam in the eighth inning to tie the score, 5-5.

The series is tied, 1-1. Game 3 is in Detroit on Tuesday.

The Dodgers play the St. Louis Cardinals in Game 3 of the National League Championship Series tonight at Dodger Stadium. The Cardinals lead the series, 2-0.
