Hart Girls Golf Team Advances In CIF Playoffs

khts_sportsThe Hart girls golf team advanced in the CIF golf playoffs, finishing third in the Northern Team Divisional at Soule Park in Ojai.

Hart finished third and the top-four teams in the Northern Divisional advanced to the CIF-Southern Section team finals at Western Hills Golf Club in Chino Hills.

Brenna Carlson was 1-under par at Soule Park to lead the Hart girls, winners of the Northern Divisional in 2008 and 2009. The girls shot 395 as a team. Torrance, the three-time reigning state champions, won the Northern Divisional with a team score of 374.

Palos Verdes was second at 392 and Notre Dame was fourth at 401.

Nikki Prichard shot an even-par 72 and Jamie Corr was 6-over par at 78 for Hart.

The Saugus girls shot a 478 as a team. Katie McCance led the way for Saugus with an 84.

Valencia shot 484 as a team. Sophomore Alison Lee was 4-under par at 68, tied for the low round of the match.

Hart, Saugus and Valencia were the only three teams from the Foothill League in the Northern Team Divisional.

Carlson and her Hart teammates will be having a fundraiser at Valencia Country Club today for the National Breast Cancer Foundation. Carlson has organized a drive-a-thon and will be accepting donations based on their per-yard drives. The fund-raiser begins at 3 this afternoon.

The Foothill League girls volleyball teams are all in action today.

Hart is at Saugus, West Ranch is at Golden Valley and Canyon is at Valencia. Valencia is 6-1 in league play and one game ahead of Saugus and West Ranch in the Foothill League standings.

In high school football, the Trinity Classical Academy is playing First Lutheran at Valencia High School tonight. The game starts at 7.

In college soccer, The Master’s College men’s team lost to Westmont, 1-0. Doug Harrell scored the lone goal in the game in the first minute.

The Master’s College managed 15 shouts, but couldn’t score.

Game 1 of the World Series was supposed to be a pitchers duel between two Cy Young Award winners. It turned into a slugfest with the Giants coming out on top, 11-7.

Juan Uribe hit a three-run home run for the Giants in the fifth inning. Freddie Sanchez hit three doubles and was 4-for-5 with three RBIs.

Vladimir Guerrero drove in two runs and Bengie Molina was 2-for-4 with an RBI for the Rangers.

Game 2 of the World Series is tonight in San Francisco. It will be Matt Cain for the Giants against CJ Wilson for the Rangers.

In hockey, the Kings lost to the Chicago Blackhawks, 3-1. Justin Williams scored for the Kings in the first period. The Blackhawks scored a goal in each of the three periods.

Viktor Stalberg scored the eventual game-winner in the second period for the Blackhawks. Goaltender Marty Turco made 33 saves for Chicago.

The Kings wrap up their five-game road trip against the Dallas Stars tonight. Pregame starts at 5 tonight on AM 1220, KHTS,
