The Hart girls golf team dominated play at the TPC at Valencia over the past two days.
The Hart girls won the Foothill League championship. Hart sophomore Jamie Corr won the league MVP. Hart senior Brenna Carlson won the two-day Newhall Land Cup tournament.
For the Hart girls team, they will head to the CIF postseason as winners of the Foothill League.
Corr won the league MVP with the lowest combined score from six league matches this year. She won the sixth and final match at TPC shooting a 3-under par 33 on Tuesday.
Carslon won the 27-hole Newhall Land Cup with a 3-under par, 105. The girls played nine holes on Monday and finished with an 18-hole match on Tuesday.
The top three teams from the Foothill League advance to the CIF playoffs. Valencia finished second, behind the play of sophomore Alison Lee.
Saugus narrowly edged West Ranch by 18 strokes for the third and final playoffs spot
Hart, Valencia and Saugus will play in the CIF Southern Section Northern Team Divisional at Soule Park Golf Course in Ojai on Oct. 27.
The Valencia girls have a tune-up match today against Quartz Hill at Vista Valencia Golf Course.
In girls volleyball, all six Foothill League teams are in action tonight.
Hart is at West Ranch, Golden Valley is at Valencia and Saugus hosts Canyon.
The Master’s College men’s soccer team lost to Azusa Pacific, 2-1. Azusa Pacific took a 1-0 lead in the first half.
The Master’s College tied the game in the 49th minutes on a goal by Jake Marchesani.
Azusa Pacific, the 15th-ranked team in the NAIA, scored the game winner six minutes later. Oktay Bulut scored on a header in the 55th minute for the win.
In college football, the UCLA Bruins will be shorthanded when they head to Oregon to face the second-ranked Ducks.
Coach Rick Neuheisel suspended two players for violating team rules. Kick returner Josh Smith and fullback Morrell Presley will not travel with UCLA to Oregon for the game on Oct. 21.
Smith is the team’s leading returner averaging 27.4 yards on 14 kickoff returns. Presley is a fullback and tight end with three receptions in six games.
The Lakers beat the Sacramento Kings, 98-95, in an NBA preseason game in Las Vegas.
Pau Gasol and Ron Artest each had 18 points to lead the Lakers.
Kobe Bryant, who is recovering from off-season knee surgery, scored seven points and had four rebounds in 18 minutes. He played nine minutes in the first quarter and nine in the third quarter.
