Hart Girls Soccer Team Advances To Buena Tournament Final

sportshartThe Hart girls soccer team advanced to the final of the Buena Tournament beating Saugus on penalty kicks in a game that was part revenge, part resurrection.

Hart and Saugus played to a scoreless tie in the semifinals of the tournament. Katie Trevino and Brittani Reddick converted their penalty kicks and Saugus failed on four attempts. Hart (6-0-2) ran its unbeaten streak to eight games and will play Buena today in the championship game.

 

The two teams met in the championship game of the Buena Tournament last year. Saugus won that game, 5-0.

Saugus, the reigning CIF Southern Section Division II champions, will play in the third-place game of the tournament against Canyon. Buena beat Canyon, 3-1, in a shootout in the other semifinal game.

The Golden Valley boys soccer team got four goals from Andres Lozano in a 6-2 win over Verdugo Hills in the San Fernando Valley Invitational.

The Canyon boys soccer team split a pair of games in the North Orange County Classic. Canyon beat Sunny Hills, 2-1, and lost to La Serna, 3-0. Mohammad Roknipour scored both goals in the game against Sunny Hills.

In high school basketball, the Canyon girls made it to the final of the Burroughs Tournament and lost to Beverly Hills, 74-64. Brooke LeMar scored 10 points to lead Canyon.

The Hart girls lost to Stockdale, 72-50, in the Santa Barbara Tournament of Champions. Melissa Boscarino scored 15 points for Hart.

The Saugus boys beat Maranatha, 49-39, in the La Canada Holiday Classic. Jawhar Purdy scored 16 points, had seven rebounds and was named to the all-tournament team.

In college basketball, the College of the Canyons men’s team beat Rio Hondo, 73-67, in the Glendale Tournament. Brennan Bradley scored 18 points to lead COC.
