Hart High Grad Steve Susdorf Makes MLB Debut With Philadelphia Phillies

Hart High graduate Steve Susdorf made his major league debut as a pinch hitter for the Philadelphia Phillies against the St. Louis Cardinals last night.

He hit into a double play in the seventh inning.

The 2004 Hart High grad was hitting .335 with a home run and 25 RBIs for Triple-A Lehigh Valley this season. He has played six seasons in the minor leagues and is a career .304 hitter.

Hart junior shortstop Nick Valaika was selected to play for the Milwaukee Brewers Area Code Games team.

Valaika was the only high school player from the Santa Clarita Valley to make the Area Code roster.

The Area Code Games, with eight teams made up of the top high school players from across the country, take place in Long Beach starting on Aug. 5.

The Dodgers lost to the visiting Cincinnati Reds, 5-2, and had their six-game winning streak snapped.

On a positive note, Yasiel Puig seems to have found his swing again. He went 2-for-4 and raised his batting average to .379.

Hanley Ramirez continued to swing a hot bat as well. He had two hits and raised his batting average to .384.

Plus the Dodgers are still in first place in the National League West standings, a half-game ahead of the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The Dodgers continue their series against the Reds tonight. Clayton Kershaw starts for the Dodgers. Homer Bailey, the no-hitter artist, gets the nod for the Reds.

Listen to the game on AM 1220, KHTS. First pitch is at 7:10.

About Connie Jones

Connie and her husband, John, moved to the Santa Clarita Valley almost 30 years ago. Living in Santa Clarita for that long is the direct opposite of Connie’s childhood. She was an Army ‘brat’ who moved every two to three years. Consequently, she has lived in many states and even spent three years in Europe. All three of her kids went to Santa Clarita schools. Connie says the best thing about her job at KHTS is that she is never bored. “If I’m not smiling, Carl is sure to ask why, just before giving me a mind-boggling project.” “KHTS AM-1220 is an integral part of our community and I’m glad to be a part of it. Besides, the DJs will take my request to play Shania Twain’s ‘Still the One’ for my wedding anniversary – gotta love that!”
