Hart High Grad Trevor Bauer Impressive In Double-A Baseball Debut

khts_sportsHart High graduate Trevor Bauer struck out eight in five innings in his Double-A debut with the Mobile BayBears.

Bauer tossed five shutout innings and scattered five hits, all singles, against the Mississippi Braves. The BayBears won the game, 5-4.

Bauer was the first-round pick of the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Jonathan Fanene, who played on the College of the Canyon football team, has signed with the Cincinnati Bengals. The defensive end is in his eighth year in the NFL and has a one-year contract with the Bengals. He is expected to be a back-up on the defensive line.

In baseball, the Angels fell a little farther out of first place in the American League West after losing for the second night in a row to the Rangers.

The Rangers won, 7-3, and knocked Angels starter Tyler Chatwood out of the game after two innings. He gave up five runs on eight hits and two walks.

In other games, the A’s doubled up on the Orioles, 8-4, and the Blue Jays exlpoded at the plate, 13-7, over the Mariners.

The Red Sox and Rays split a doubleheader. The Red Sox won the first game and beat Hart High grad James Shields, 3-1. The Rays won the nightcap, 6-2. The Yankees beat the Royals, 9-7, the Tigers beat the Twins, 7-1, and the White Sox beat the Indians, 8-7 in a marathon 14 innings.

In the National League, the Giants lost to the Braves, 2-1 in 11 innings, the Diamondbacks slipped past the Phillies, 3-2, the Marlins squeaked past the Rockies, 6-5, and the Padres muscled up on the Mets, 6-1.

The Nationals beat the Reds, 6-4, the Pirates beat the Cardials, 5-4 in 11 innings, and the Astros beat the Cubs, 6-5.
