Hart High Grad Trevor Bauer Wins Pac-10 Pitcher Of The Year Award

khts_sportsHart High graduate and UCLA pitcher Trevor Bauer was selected as the Pac-10 pitcher of the year. He was the first Bruin to win the Pac-10 pitcher of the year award since 1992.

Bauer was also selected as a semifinalist for the Golden Spikes Award given annually to the best college baseball player in the nation.

Bauer has a 12-2 record with a 1.27 ERA and 189 strikeouts, the most in the nation. He is the UCLA career leader in wins with 33 and strikeouts with 446.

The Dodgers lost to the Colorado Rockies, 3-0, and had their three-game winning streak snapped.

In other games, the Giants needed extra innings and beat the Cardinals, 7-5 in 11 innings. The Diamondbacks beat the Marlins, 6-5, and the Padres lost to the Braves, 4-3.

The Pirates beat the Mets, 9-3, the Reds beat the Brewers, 4-3, the Astros beat the Cubs, 3-1, and the Nationals beat the Phillies, 2-1.

In the American League, the Angels were shut out by the Royals, 2-0. The Rangers blanked the Rays, 3-0, the Yankees beat the A’s, 4-2 and the Orioles beat the Mariners, 2-1.

The White Sox beat the Red Sox, 7-4, the Tigers beat the Twins, 4-2, and the Indians outslugged the Blue Jays, 13-9.

In the NHL playoffs, the Vancouver Canucks beat the Boston Bruins, 1-0, in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup final. Raffi Torres scored with 18 seconds left in the game and Roberto Luongo made 36 saves to lead the Canucks.

Game 2 of the Stanley  Cup playoffs is Saturday in Vancouver.
