Hart High Graduate Anthony Ervin Earns Spot On United States Swim Team

Hart High graduate Anthony Ervin secured a spot on the United States 400-meter freestyle relay team with a third-place finish in the 100 at the national swimming championships at Indiana University.

Ervin is eligible to compete for Team USA at the FINA World Championships in Spain in July.

Saugus sophomore Abbey Weitzel, swimming for the Canyons Aquatics Club, was 19th in the 100 freestyle. Olympic gold medalist Missy Franklin won the 100 freestyle and set a meet record in 56.26 seconds.

Weitzel is also scheduled to swim in the 200 and 50 freestyle races.

Matt Johnson from Hart High and swimming for the Canyons Aquatics Club was 21st in the men’s 1,500 freestyle in 16 minutes, 15.33 seconds.

In volleyball, Hart High graduate Taylor Gregory was selected to play for the U.S. Men’s Junior National Volleyball team.

Gregory, a freshman at Long Beach State, is one of four new members to the Junior National Team. The United States will play in the FIVB Men’s U21 World Championship and the U21 Pan American Cup in Costa Rica in July.

In baseball, the Dodgers beat the San Francisco Giants, 4-2, and completed the sweep against their Northern California rivals.

The Dodgers scored three runs in the sixth inning to take the lead. Hanley Ramirez was 2-for-3 with an RBI and scored a run.

Yasiel Puig went 3-for-4 and raised his batting average to .435.

The Dodgers have a five-game winning streak and welcome the Philadelphia Phillies to the Ravine tonight to start a weekend series.

Zack Greinke starts for the Dodgers against Jonathan Pettibone for the Phillies.
