Hart High Graduate Matt Moore Signs With Miami Dolphins

khts_sportsHart High graduate and former UCLA quarterback Matt Moore signed with the Miami Dolphins over the weekend for a reported $5 million over the next two years.

He spent last season with the Carolina Panthers and played in six games. He joins the Dolphins and will battle with Chad Penne and rookie Pat Devlin for the quarterback spot on the Dolphins.

Moore threw for 857 yards with five touchdowns and 10 interceptions with the Panthers last year.

In auto racing, Canyon Country’s RJ Johnson won the NASCAR Super Late Model race at Toyota Speedway at Irwindale. It was his fifth win in six Super Late Model races this season. He extended his lead in the Super Late Model standings at the track to 16 points over Ryan Partridge of Rancho Cucamonga.

In baseball, the Angels lost to the Tigers, 3-2, in an intense pitchers duel between Jered Weaver and Justin Verlander.

Verlander was four outs away from his second no-hitter of the season for the Tigers. He gave up only one hit, but the Angels scored two runs in the top of the eighth to make it an interesting game.

Weaver gave up two home runs, one to Magglio Ordonez in the third inning and a solo shot to Carlos Guillen in the seventh.

In other games, the A’s beat the Twins, 7-3, the Rangers lost to the Blue Jays, 7-3, and the Mariners lost to the Rays, 8-1.

The Indians beat the Royals, 5-3, the Yankees doubled up on the Orioles, 4-2, and the Red Sox beat the White Sox, 5-3.

In the National League, the Reds shut out the Giants, 9-0, and the Padres beat the Rockies, 8-3.

The Cubs beat the Cardinals, 6-3, the Brewers squeacked past the Astros, 5-4, the Marlins edged the Braves, 3-1, the Nationals beat the Mets, 3-2, and the Phillies beat the Pirates, 6-5 in 10 innings.
