Hart Joins Valencia, Canyon In CIF Football Top 10

khts_sportsThe Hart football team has cracked the top 10 in the latest CIF Southern Section Northern Division poll.

With an impressive 44-3 win over Arroyo, Hart earned the 10th spot in the Northern Division poll, joining Canyon and Valencia in the top 10 rankings.

Canyon moved up two spots to No. 6 after beating Camarillo on the road, 41-28.

Valencia maintained its hold on the No. 2 spot after a 45-7 blowout against Palmdale. That same blowout knocked Palmdale down four spots, from No. 5 to No. 9.

Undefeated Westlake is the No. 1 team in the Northern Division poll.

The Santa Clarita Christian football team is the third-ranked team in the CIF Division I 8-man poll. Faith Baptist is No. 1 and Windward is No. 2.

The Valencia girls tennis team is ranked No. 1 in the Southern Section Division III poll. The West Ranch girls are No. 3 in the Division III poll.

The Saugus girls cross country team is No. 2 in the Southern Section Division II poll. Redondo Union surpassed Saugus for the top spot.

The Saugus boys cross country team is No. 2 in the Southern Section Division II poll, behind top-ranked Claremont.

In high school golf, the Hart girls won a Foothill League match by 44 strokes and broke their own school record at Vista Valencia Golf Course.

The team shot a 170, besting the old course record by three strokes.

Brenna Carlson shot the low round of the match with a 2-under par 31. Four Hart golfers took the top four spots in the match. Jamie Corr was second at 1-under 32 and Amanda Corr and Nikki Prichard tied for third with 1-over par 34s.

In college golf, the College of the Canyons women’s team won a Western State Conference match by eight strokes over Bakersfield at Alisal Ranch Golf Course.

COC’s Hannah Lee shot the low round of the match, a 5-over par, 77. Candace Robledo was 8-over par, 80.

In high school volleyball, the West Ranch girls beat Campbell Hall in four games on Monday, but lost to Sherman Oaks Notre Dame in five games last night. Bre Braucher and Sarah McGough each had 11 kills against Campbell Hall.

Baucher had 14 kills against Notre Dame. Shelby Kunz had 21 digs.

The Valencia girls beat Oxnard in four games. Alexa Schmidt had 12 kills to lead Valencia.

The Saugus girls beat Chaminade in five games. Jaclyn Clark had a huge game with 25 kills, 29 digs and seven aces for Saugus. Sarah Blumgren added 16 kills.

In college soccer, The Master’s College, the 12th ranked team in the NAIA, beat Fresno Pacific, 3-1, behind a two-goal game by Emily Bruton.

Bobbie Roberts scored a goal in the 18th minute to give The Master’s College a 2-0 lead at halftime. Andie Reyes had a pair of assists in the game.

The Master’s College is 9-0-1 after 10 games.

The College of the Canyons women’s soccer team lost to undefeated Pierce College, 1-0. Nora Perez scored the lone goal of the game in the second half.

The Dodgers won a nailbiter, 9-7, over the Colorado Rockies. Casey Blake hit two home runs, including a solo shot in the ninth inning to give the Dodgers a two-run cushion.

James Loney and Matt Kemp also homered for the Dodgers.

The Dodgers can go for the sweep today. It will be Clayton Kershaw for the Dodgers against Jhoulys Chacin for the Rockies. Pregame starts at 11:30 this morning on AM 1220, KHTS.
