The Hart boy’s basketball team put the Foothill League on notice with a commanding 63-44 win over Golden Valley in the league opener on Tuesday.
After a back and forth first quarter that ended in a 14-14 tie, Golden Valley got out to a 22-18 lead in the second quarter and looked like they would pull ahead and cruise to victory. But a 4-point play by Hart senior Caleb Waldeck would tie the game once again and more importantly shift the momentum in favor of the Indians.
Waldeck went on to hit six three-pointers and tally 25 points on the night to lead all scorers. Senior captain Whitten Dominguez overcame a slow offensive night with some strong defense and energizing effort all game.
“We got a bunch of guys that can shoot it, so if we spread the floor and share the ball we’re really hard to guard,” said Hart head Coach Tom Kelly following his teams victory.
Hart will open its Foothill League home schedule Friday with a tough matchup against a full-strength Valencia team, while Golden Valley looks to bounce back when it hosts Canyon. Both games are scheduled for a 6:30 pm tipoff.
