Hart PONY Baseball Team Wins Mustang World Series

khts_sportsThe Hart PONY baseball team won the Mustang World Series, downing Caguas from Puerto Rico, 7-2, in the championship game.

Caguas had a 2-0 lead in the third inning when Hart scored four runs in the bottom of the frame. Hart tacked on three more runs in the fourth inning and cruised the rest of the way in the title game in Texas.

Hart won the Mustang World Series for the fourth time. The last time Hart won the Mustang World Series was in 2009.

In the semifinals, Hart beat the South Post Oak team from Houston, 10-0, and was an undefeated 3-0 in pool play.

In auto racing, Canyon High graduate Greg Pursley was part of a 1-2 finish for Gene Price Motorsports in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West race at Colorado National Speedway.

Pursley was second to teammate Dylan Kwasniewski, who won the pole and dominated, leading all but three laps of the Toyota/NAPA Auto Parts 150.

Pursley leads the West Series standings after 10 races and has a 253-point edge over Moses Smith.

In baseball, the Angels got another gem from starter Ervin Santana in a 2-1 win over the Seattle Mariners. Santana pitched into the ninth inning and gave up only one run on seven hits. It was his fourth win in a row.

Mark Trumbo hit a solo home run for the Angels in the third inning, his 22nd of the season.

Meanwhile, the Texas Rangers, who have a one-game lead over the Angels in the American League West standings, beat the Indians, 5-3. The A’s beat the Rays, 5-4 in 10 innings.

The Blue Jays beat the Orioles, 7-2, the Royals beat the Tigers, 4-3, the White Sox shut out the Twins, 7-0, and the Red Sox beat the Yankees, 3-2 in 10 innings to move into first place in the American League East.

In the National League, the Giants beat the Phillies, 3-1, the Rockies lost to the Nationals, 3-2, and the Padres beat the Pirates, 7-3.

The Braves beat the Mets, 6-5, the Brewers beat the Astros, 7-3, the Reds snapped the Cubs seven-game winning streak, 8-7, and the Cardinals doubled up on the Marlins, 8-4.
