Hart, Saugus Boys Basketball Teams Will Play For Hart Tournament Title

khts_sportsThe Hart and Saugus boys basketball teams will meet in the championship game of the Hart Holiday Classic tonight at Hart High School.

Saugus beat Grant, 60-53, to earn a spot in the championship game.

Brad Buchignani scored 15 points, all on 3-pointers, to lead Saugus. Jeremy Gatewood had 12 points for Saugus.

Hart beat Quartz Hill, 78-74, in overtime to advance to the championship game of the tournament.

Roman Delgado scored all nine of Hart’s points in overtime. He finished with a game-high 28 points and made three 3-pointers.

Hart erased a 17-point first-quarter deficit and took the lead for the first time in the game in the fourth quarter. John Green scored 15 points and was a perfect 6-for-6 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter.

The West Ranch boys basketball team is in the semifinals of the Mt. Carmel tournament after a 80-66 win over Vista Murrieta.

Ako Kaluna had a double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds.

The Canyon boys basketball team beat Lakewood, 60-49, in the semifinals of the Ventura Tournament. Canyon’s Coley Apsay had a team-high 17 points and six rebounds.

Canyon plays Ventura in the championship game of the tournament today.

The Santa Clarita Christian boys basketball team moved into the consolation championship of the Tri-City Invitational in San Diego with a 49-38 win over Hesperia Christian. Cikko Moore had a double-double for Santa Clarita Christian. He scored 17 points and had 13 rebounds.

The Valencia boys basketball team lost to Loyola, 68-59, in the semifinals of the Oaks Christian Holiday Classic. Lonnie Jackson had 29 points in the loss for Valencia.

The West Ranch girls basketball team beat Bellflower, 68-50, in the consolation bracket of the West Coast Holiday Classic.

Kaylie Fandino scored 15 points for West Ranch.

The Saugus girls basketball team beat Marlborough, 52-50, in the West Coast Holiday Classic. Kim Smither had 10 points and eight rebounds for Saugus.

In high school soccer, the Canyon girls won the Hart Tournament, beating host Hart, 3-2, on penalty kicks. The two teams played to a 1-1 tie in regulation and two overtime periods. Canyon’s Jill Russ scored the deciding goal in the penalty kick portion of the championship game.

The Golden Valley boys beat Village Christian, 7-3, in the La Canada Tournament. Andres Lozano and Francis Diaz each had a hat trick, scoring three goals, for Golden Valley.

The Canyon boys soccer team beat Maranantha, 6-1, in the La Canada Tournament. AJ Rochow scored a goal and had three assists.

Canyon plays Golden Valley in the third-place game of the tournament today.

The Lakers snapped their three-game losing streak with an emphatic, 103-88, win over the New Orleans Hornets.

Lamar Odom came off the bench and scored a game-high 24 points. Kobe Bryant scored 20 points on another off-shooting night. He was 8-of-14 from the field and missed all three of his 3-point attempts.

The Kings lost to the Phoenix Coyotes, 6-3, ending their four-game winning streak. Ryan Smyth scored a goal and Anze Kopitar had two assists.

The Kings have won five of their past seven games. Next up for the Kings are the Philadelphia Flyers at Staples Center tonight.
