Hart Shuts Out Chaminade In Valley Invitational Baseball League Game

khts_sportsThe Hart baseball team shut out Chaminade, 8-0, and snapped a five-game losing streak in the Valley Invitational Baseball League.

Erik Vogel and Ricky Torres combined on a six-hitter. Vogel started the game and went four innings. He gave up four hits and struck out two.

Torres pitched the final three innings, giving up two hits and one walk. He struck out one batter.

Baggio Saldivar was 2-for-4 and drove in three runs for Hart. Luke Persico was 2-for-5 and drove in two runs. Connor O’Brien, Alex Tenorio and Josh Brown each had RBIs for Hart.

Canyon lost to Crespi, 4-1, despite a perfect 2-for-2 day from Kevin Morrice.

Canyon collected only four hits in the game and lost its third straight in the summer baseball league. Jacob King was 1-for-3 and scored a run. Blake Reagan drove in Canyon’s only run in the fourth inning.

In women’s soccer, the Santa Clarita Blue Heat is coming off a 2-1 loss to the Seattle Sounders as they prepare for their regular season finale against the Colorado Rush at Valencia High School on Thursday night.

The Blue Heat is in last place with a 2-6-1 record in the United Soccer League W-League Western Conference. The Force is tied for second place in the Western Conference with a 2-3-5 record.

In the Major League Baseball All Star Game, the National League beat the American League, 3-1, and ended a 13-game winless streak. The last time the National League won an All-Star Game was in 1996.

Atlanta Braves catcher Brian McCann hit a bases-loaded double in the seventh inning that gave the National League a two-run lead and got Dodgers reliever Hong Chih-Kuo off the hook for the loss.

Kuo gave up an unearned run in the fifth inning that gave the American League a 1-0 lead.

Dodgers closer Jonathan Broxton got the final three outs for the save.

Andre Ethier started in centerfield for the National League All Stars. He was 1-for-2. His Dodger teammate Rafael Furcal walked in his only at-bat in the game.

The Dodgers head to St. Louis to start a four-game series with the Cardinals. The scheduled starters are Clayton Kershaw for the Dodgers against Chris Carpenter for the Cardinals.
