Hart Softball Team Beats Upland In Extra Innings In CIF Playoffs

khts_sportsThe Hart softball team hit a pair of timely home runs and beat Upland, 4-3 in extra innings, in the wild-card round of the CIF Southern Section Division 1 playoffs.

Hart’s Jessica Jones hit a game-winning solo home run with two outs in the eighth inning. Tracy Chandless hit a two-out, two-run home run in the seventh inning to give Hart a 3-2 lead.

Upland tied the game in the bottom of the seventh inning to send it into extra innings.

Hart pitcher Emili Escamilla got the final three outs to advance her team into the first round of the Division 1 playoffs. Hart plays Simi Valley, the Marmonte League champ, today.

The Trinity Classical Academy baseball team lost in its first trip to the CIF playoffs. Coastal Union from Cambria beat Trinity, 6-2, in the wild-card round of the Division 7 playoffs.

Trinity had a 2-1 lead after three innings, but Coastal Union scored five runs in the fourth.

Nick Spinello and Patch Kulp scored for Trinity on an error in the second inning for the team’s only two runs.

The Saugus softball team, the champion of the Foothill League, starts the CIF Southern Section Division 1 playoffs today at home against Canyon of Anaheim in the first of five games scheduled for Santa Clarita Valley teams.

West Ranch is home for its first-round playoff game against Moorpark.

Hart is on the road and plays Simi Valley, the champion of the Marmonte League.

The Vasquez softball team is home against Holy Family in the first round of the Division 6 playoffs.

The Trinity Classical Academy softball team travels to Coastal Christian for the first round of the Division 7 playoffs.

In college baseball, The Master’s College is in the National Christian College Athletic Association World Series with a pair of games today.

The Master’s College plays Mt. Vernon in the first game in Mason, Ohio. The Mustangs face North Greenville in the second game.

In the Amgen Tour of California, the third stage produced a third different winner and a third leader.

Chris Horner from Bend, Ore., leads the Tour of California after winning the third stage from Livermore to San Jose.

Andy Schleck of Luxemborg was second followed by Rory Sutherland of Australia in third.

The fourth stage from Seaside to Paso Robles starts today. It is the longest stage of the Tour of California, 135.1 miles.

In the NHL playoffs, the Vancouver Canucks scored four goals in the third period and beat the San Jose Sharks, 7-3, in Game 2 of the Western Conference finals.

The Canucks are up 2-0 in the best of seven series.

Game 3 is in San Jose on Friday.

In the NBA playoffs, the Miami Heat beat the Chicago Bulls, 85-75, to even the Eastern Conference finals at a game apiece.

LeBron James scored 29 points and had 10 rebounds for the Heat.

Game 3 is in Miami on Sunday.
