Hart Softball Team Heads To CIF Quarterfinals

The Hart softball team is leaving little room for error and making the most of its runs. Tracy Chandless drove in the lone run of the game in Hart’s 1-0 win over Moorpark in the second round of the CIF-Southern Section Division I playoffs. Chandless knocked in Devon Lindvall in the fifth inning. Destiny Rodino threw a two-hitter as Hart won its second straight playoff game by a 1-0 score.

Hart will play Esperanza in the quarterfinals on Thursday.

The Valencia softball team lost to Riverside Poly, 4-2. Valencia rallied in the seventh inning with Megan Foglesong driving in two runs, but the reigning CIF champs fell short in the second round of playoffs.

In high school baseball, West Ranch lost to Edison, 13-1, and was eliminated from the CIF-Southern Section Division I playoffs. Mitchell Thompson hit a solo home run in the fifth inning to score West Ranch’s only run.

In women’s soccer, the Premier Soccer Santa Clarita Valley team lost its franchise opener, 1-0, to the Claremont Stars. Tara Corcoran scored on a header off a corner kick in the 42nd minute for Claremont. The Rooks, Santa Clarita’s team in the Women’s Professional Soccer League, is making its debut in the league.
