Hart Upsets Number 2 Team In Country

Softball match ups provide intense action

What a great day for Santa Clarita softball on Thursday in the CIF-SS D1 quarterfinals.  First off, at Valencia, the nation’s No. 1 team had its hands full with the Vikings from Marina.  The game was scoreless into the 10th inning.  In the bottom half of the inning, Valencia’s Amy Moore led off with a single, Lani Bernardino reached on an error and Kristen Aidem got an infield single.  So with no outs and the bases loaded, Alyssa Ishibashi came up with the hit that plated Moore, gave the Vikings a 1-0 win and has sent Valencia to the semi finals.

At Newhall Park, the drama was also intense.  Hart got up to a quick 2-0 lead over the nation’s No. 2 team – the Camarillo Scorpions.  But the Scorpions re-took the lead in the top of the 5th scoring four runs, only to see the Indians get 2 in the sixth to tie it at 4.  So bottom of the 7th, a 4-4 tie, and Melissa Brown, with the bases loaded, gets the base hit that not only upsets Camarillo 5-4, but also gives the Hart Indians a trip to the semi-finals.

So on Tuesday, Hart will face Norco and Valencia will go against Santiago of Corona for the right to play for the CIF-SS D1 championship.
