Hart, Valencia Move On In CIF Softball Playoffs

Hart’s Jessica Shults hit a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth inning and it proved to be all the offense her team needed in a 1-0 win over Trabuco Hills in the first round of the CIF Southern Section Division I playoffs.

Destiny Rodino threw a one-hitter, struck out eight and walked only one. The only hit she gave up was a single in the fourth inning.

In other first round CIF playoff games, Valencia’s freshman pitcher Carly Mortensen took a no-hitter into the seventh inning in an 8-0 win over Agoura. Mortensen ended up throwing a one-hitter in her playoffs debut.

Saugus only mustered two hits and lost to Thousand Oaks, 5-0.

Santa Clarita Christian lost to Grace Brethren, 12-2, in the first round of the CIF-Southern Section Division VI playoffs.

In high school baseball, Valencia opens the Southern Section Division I playoffs at home today against Vista Murrieta. West Ranch is home against El Dorado and Saugus is on the road to face Mater Dei. All games start at 3:15.

In high school volleyball, the Valencia boys team faces Royal in the quarterfinals of the CIF-Southern Section Division II playoffs tonight. The game is at Valencia and starts at 7.
