The Hart softball team has scored only two runs in two playoff games. But it has been enough to get the team in the CIF-Southern Section Division I quarterfinals. Hart is at home today to play Esperanza, one of the hottest teams in the Division I bracket.
Esperanza has won three straight playoff games, knocking off Mater Dei in the first round of the tournament and shutting out El Modena, 3-0, on Tuesday. The game starts at 3:15 p.m.
In high school baseball, Valencia sophomore shortstop Christian Lopes is the Foothill League player of the year. He hit a league-record 15 home runs and drove in 33 runs.

In high school golf, West Ranch sophomore J.J. Holen shot a 3-over par 74 at Hacienda Golf Club in La Habra Heights and qualified for the Southern California Golf Association/CIF Tournament.
Holen finished 11th and will be the only golfer from the Foothill League in the SCGA/CIF Tournament at the SCGA Members course in Temecula on Wednesday.
Valencia senior Alex Homa shot a 9-over par 80 and teammate, freshman Jonathan Chang, shot 16-over par 87 at the SCGA qualifier at Hacienda Golf Club. Both missed the cut to advance to the SCGA tournament.
Servite’s Patrick Cantlay won the SCGA qualifier with a 5-under par 66.
In high school soccer, Lisa Rollo, the Saugus girls coach, resigned on Tuesday, according to a report in The Signal. Rollo led the Saugus girls soccer team to the CIF-Southern Section Division II championship over the winter. She also guided the Saugus girls to the CIF Regionals for the first time in school history. Rollo was honored as the CIF-Southern Section Division II Coach of the Year.
