Hart, West Ranch Football Seasons Start Tonight

news_sportsThe Hart and West Ranch football teams are scheduled to open their seasons tonight. West Ranch is on the road and will play Hueneme in Oxnard. Hart is scheduled to host El Camino Real at College of the Canyons.

But the Station Fire might alter those plans. The Hart school district is expected to make a decision at noon today whether the games will proceed as scheduled. Football practices have been canceled throughout the valley all week because of poor air quality resulting from the fire.

 

The College of the Canyons football team is planning to go on with its season opener on Saturday night. College of the Canyons hosts Antelope Valley College.

Firefighters, peace officers and their families will be given free admission to the game as a thank you from the college for all their hard work and sacrifice for fighting the Station Fire. Game time is at 7.

The College of the Canyons women’s volleyball team lost its home opener to Irvine College on Wednesday night. The Lady Cougars were swept in three games. Jillian Anderson had seven kills to lead COC.

In high school golf, the Hart girls won their season opener with a 34-srtroke win over La Reina at Rustic Canyon Golf Course. Nikki Pritchard and Brenna Carlson each shot 2-over par 38s to lead Hart, 198-232.

The Valencia girls lost its first golf match of the season by two shots to Oaks Christian, 216-218. Valencia’s Alison Lee shot a 4-under 31 at the Vineyard Golf Course.

Allie Jin and Katya Ortiz each shot 10-over 45s for Valencia.
