Hart’s Jamie Corr heads to the CIF Women’s Southern California Golf Association Regional State Qualifier at Rancho California in Murrieta as the only representative from the Santa Clarita Valley.

Corr is a two-time Foothill League MVP. She is one tournament away from reaching the state championship. The Regional State Qualifier begins at 8 a.m. today.

In high school volleyball, two teams from the Santa Clarita Valley are still alive in the Southern Section Division IA playoffs.

Hart is home for its second round match against El Dorado tonight. Hart beat Moorpark in the first round.

Valencia, the Foothill League champion, is on the road and plays Canyon of Anaheim. The Vikings beat Flintridge Sacred Heart in the first round.

Both matches start at 7.

In college volleyball, the College of the Canyons women swept West LA College on sophomore night.

Sam Ralston led COC with nine kills and 10 digs. Cory Nua also had nine kills for the Lady Cougars.

Ashleigh Tippet had 20 assists and four aces. The team recorded 18 aces in the match.

In baseball, the Dodgers have hired hitting coach Mark McGwire. He was the hitting coach for the St. Louis Cardinals and played in college at USC.

In youth tennis, the Santa Clarita Tennis Aces lost, 4-2, to the CSUN Fireballers in a SoCal Northeast League USTA Junior Team Tennis match.

In the NBA, the Lakers lost to the Utah Jazz, 95-86, despite a 16-point fourth quarter from Kobe Bryant. He scored 29 points in the game, but the Lakers dropped to 1-4 to start the season.

The Clippers handed the San Antonio Spurs their first loss of the season, 106-84, at Staples Center. The Clippers also snapped their little two-game losing streak.
