Hart’s Tim White had quite a meet at the CIF Southern Section track and field finals at Mt. San Antonio College.
He became the first athlete in school history to win two CIF Southern Section titles. He won the Division III high jump and the triple jump.
Hart teammate Austin O’Neil kept the winning drive alive at the Southern Section finals. He won the Division III 1,600 race, giving Hart three Southern Section championships at the meet.
Two girls from Canyon came away with Southern Section championships. Taylor Thomas won the Division II 100 hurdles in an impressive 14.18 seconds.
Tiffini Stone won the Division II triple jump.
All four qualified for the Masters Meet next week at Cerritos College.
Other Masters Meet qualifiers are West Ranch’s Ashley Welker in the 800 and Nick Bultman in the shot put. Saugus senior Karis Frankian will compete in the 3,200 and Valencia’s Clint Gingrich qualified in the long jump.
In the CIF baseball playoffs, Saugus and West Ranch moved on to the Southern Section Division 1 second round.
West Ranch knocked out Riverside Poly, 6-3. J.D. Krauskopf hit a three-run home run in the second inning to pace the Wildcats in the first round.
West Ranch is on the road and plays Capistrano Valley in the second round on Tuesday.
Saugus clobbered Oxnard, 10-2, to win its first playoff game in three years. The Centurions scored seven runs in the sixth inning to take control of the game. Chris Devery broke a 2-2 tie with a solo home run in the fifth.
Saugus travels to play JW North in the second round.
The Santa Clarita Christian baseball team beat Animo Leadership, 6-2, in the first round of the Division 7 playoffs.
In high school ice hockey, Hart and Saugus face-off in the semifinals of the Ice Station Valencia league tonight. Bakersfield plays the Northerners from Antelope Valley in the other semifinal.
The hockey doubleheader starts with Hart and Saugus at 6:15.
At the Indianapolis 500, Alex Tagliani, driving for Bryan Herta Autosport, qualified 11th, the middle of the fourth row.
The team owned by Valencia’s Bryan Herta won the Indy 500 last year with Dan Wheldon as the driver.
In the NBA playoffs, the Clippers put up a fight, but were still no match for the San Antonio Spurs in Game 4 of the Western Conference semifinals. The Spurs eliminated the Clippers, 102-99, at Staples Center.
In the NHL playoffs, there will be a Game 5 in the Western Conference final after the Kings lost to the Coyotes, 2-0. The Kings have a 3-1 lead and are headed back to Phoenix.
