Round One of the CIF Southern Section Playoffs

Division 1

Mater Dei (9-2): 44

Valencia (7-4): 6

Final

Valencia was simply overmatched by a Mater Dei team with 14 players currently being recruiting or committed to Division I college football programs.

The Vikings fought hard throughout and had their best opportunity in the third quarter where they forced three Mater Dei fumbles, but they could not capitalize. Luring Paialii scored the lone Valencia touchdown on a one yard plunge.

Division 3

Moorpark (8-3): 42

Hart (6-5): 28

Final

Hart mistakes proved to be too much to overcome as the Indians fall to Moorpark at Canyon HS. Two interceptions returned for touchdowns were the difference in the game.

Division 4

Bishop Diego (4-7): 35

Saugus (8-3): 38

Final

An incredible finish Pt. 2, as a Cole Gallagher pass bounced off the hands of three different players before being intercepted with under 4 minutes to play.

Then on what looked like the game-winning drive for Bishop Diego, the Cardinals cough the ball up and give it right back.

Saugus proceeded to drive down the field and set up for a 43 yard field goal with just seconds remaining on the clock. Colton Dolder drilled the field goal with one second left, and the Centurions recovered their onside kick to finish the game.

Gallagher had a career day passing, finishing with 342 yards and four total touchdowns and the Centurions avenge last season’s Division 6 semifinal loss to the Cardinals.

Saugus will host No. 3 Villa Park next Friday back at College of the Canyons.

Division 6

West Ranch (9-2): 35

Silverado (5-5): 31

Final

An incredible finish Pt. 1 in the high desert where the Wildcats scored a touchdown with 49 seconds to play on a 50 yard touchdown pass from Weston Eget to Jackson Reyes.

Silverado led 21-14 at halftime and 31-28 late in the game, but the Wildcats’ late game magic proved too much.

Ryan Camacho (two rushing touchdowns) and Jovan Camacho (receiving touchdown) once again paced West Ranch in the victory.

West Ranch will host No. 3 Oxnard next Friday in the Quarterfinal Round.
