West Ranch dominated Burroughs 54-0 Thursday night at Valencia High School to move to 2-0 on the season. The Wildcats are 9-2 the last three seasons in non-league play.
The Camacho brothers put on another show Thursday night, combining for two receiving touchdowns, two rushing touchdowns, and one interception returned for a touchdown.
“Last week we did O.K., we made a lot of mistakes… This week at least in the first half we shored up a couple of those [mistakes]. Still, we got a long ways to go to be as good as I think we can be but we took a step in the right direction so I’m proud of my boys,” said Coach Varner after the game.
Building off of last Friday’s 39-14 win over Nordhoff, West Ranch scored on both sides of the ball with the defense scoring two touchdowns (one fumble recovery and one interception return) and preserving a shutout.
Offensively, West Ranch is (again) off to a hot start to the year with quarterback Weston Eget distributing the ball to the dynamic Camacho Brothers, with the help and experience of the other 18 returning players.
“Well we really focused a lot on the off season, prioritized even more than we were before in terms of the weight training and getting stronger,” said Coach Varner. “We knew last year with 19 or 18 starters coming back that we had a chance to do something special this year.”
Next up for the Wildcats is St. Genevieve at Valencia High School next Friday (8/31).
