It’s time for our weekly look at how Santa Clarita’s Major League players are doing.  Santa Clarita resident and current Baltimore Oriole first baseman Kevin Millar is off to the best start of any local player, and of his own career.  Millar has a hit in all five games, and is hitting .389 with a home run and three RBI, leading the Orioles to a surprise 4-1 record and first place in the AL East.  James Shields followed his strong opening day performance with a decent game against the Yankees.  The former Hart Indian is 1-0 with a 3.00 era and seven strikeouts to start the season, but his Tampa Bay Rays provided no run support in the second game against New York.  Former COC pitcher Dana Eveland was outstanding in his first outing as an Oakland Athletic.  The 24-year-old lefty went seven innings, giving up six hits and one run while striking out seven as the A’s beat Cleveland Saturday.  Former Hart Indian Jerry Owens is scheduled to start a minor league rehab assignment next week, as he continues recovery from a groin injury.

The Hart Indians took a tough loss in the Redondo Tournament, 5-4 to Banning thanks in part to three errors.  The Indians are now 12-5 on the season.

Valencia softball split a pair of games in the Michele Carew tournament, losing 6-5 to Yucaipa and beating Sonora 7-0.

The Los Angeles Dodgers took two of three from San Diego over the weekend.  The Dodgers travel to Arizona for three starting tonight when Esteban Loaiza takes on Dan Haren, live on KHTS at 6:10p.m.

The Los Angeles Kings lost to Anaheim 4-3 on Saturday, officially ending a season that was all but over when it started.  The good news is the Kings are tied with Tampa Bay for the worst record in hockey with 71 points, meaning both teams have a equally good shot of winning the NHL Draft Lottery taking place tonight.  The Kings have seven picks in the first three rounds in what is supposed to be the deepest draft in nearly a decade.
