Foothill League boy’s tennis champion Valencia made the long trip to Palm Desert High School for the quarterfinal round of the CIF Division II playoffs on Tuesday, but unfortunately for the Vikings the trip back was even longer. The Vikings season came to an end with a 14-4 loss to the Aztecs.
Valencia boy’s volleyball continued to show why they are the top ranked team nationally, easily disposing of Villa Park in three games on Tuesday. The Vikings did not allow Villa Park to score 20 points in any of the three games. Next up for the Vikings is a matchup on Friday with the winner of the Arroyo Grande/Claremont game.
Phil Hart of Lockheed Federal Credit Union joined KHTS’ Carl Goldman, Carol Rock, and Jason Galvin at Marie Calendar’s yesterday afternoon to recognize the 2007-2008 Lockheed Players of the Week. The award is given weekly to top players throughout Football and Basketball season, and Lockheed donates $250 to the winning player’s team booster club. The winners from this year included football players Graham Wilbert and Jordan Thompson (Valencia), John Schlegel (Golden Valley), Ross Bacon (West Ranch), Garrett Hernandez (Canyon), Desi Rodriguez, Ryan Zirbel, and Nick Green (Saugus), and B.R. Holbrook, Brian Felt, Dakotah Luster and Foothill League Player of the Year Delano Howell (Hart). Basketball players honored included Cody Anderson (Canyon), Dave Franklin (West Ranch), Mitch Weber (Saugus), and Jim Baughman, Skyler Seymour and Foothill League Player of the Year John Otavka (Valencia).
