Continuing the trend set for most of the Foothill League baseball regular season, pitching dominated the first round of the CIF Southern Section Division I playoffs.  Hart’s Michael Montgomery dominated a Westlake squad with loads of underachieving talent, as Hart advanced to round two with a 5-1 win.  Valencia pitcher Josh Corralles also impressed in the opening round game, allowing only a solo homerun in the top of the seventh inning, as Valencia advanced to round two with a 2-1 win.  Saugus had their season end early with a 5-2 loss at Norco.

The Division I softball playoffs get underway today, with league co-champions Valencia and Hart both hosting an opponent from the Pacific View League at 3pm.  The Vikings take on Oxnard and the Indians host Pacifica.  Saugus also takes on a Pacific View league team, traveling to Rio Mesa for round one.

The Los Angeles Lakers arrived in Utah yesterday where they’re preparing for game 6 of the Western Conference semifinal.  The Lakers would close out the series with a win.

The Los Angeles Dodgers picked up win number two, thanks to some timely homeruns from Andrew Jones, Jeff Kent and backup catcher Gary Bennett.  The Dodgers 7-2 win over the Brewers give the boy’s in blue some momentum heading into tonight’s freeway series showdown in Anaheim.  You can hear all of the action as the Dodgers and Angels go at it live on KHTS at 6:30pm.
