The opening round of the 2008 CIF Southern Section Division I softball playoffs was a brilliant success for the Foothill League on Friday.  In the showdown with the Pacific View League, all three Foothill teams were victorious.  League co-champion Valencia earned the highest seed, but also faced the toughest opponent thanks to some shaky defense early on.  Vikings left fielder Megan Foglesong made an error in the first inning that allowed two runs to score, but made up for the mistake in the bottom of the seventh inning with a walk-off sacrifice fly to defeat Oxnard 4-3.  The other league co-champion, Hart, also faced a tough game from Pacifica, but the Indians stayed composed and earned a 6-2 win.  Saugus traveled to Rio Mesa and earned a shocking 8-2 win to advance to round two.  All three second round games will be played tomorrow, and all three Foothill League squads will have to travel.  Valencia will head to Santa Margarita, Hart travels to Mater Dei, and Saugus will take on the second overall seed, Corona Santiago.

Valencia High boy’s volleyball advanced to the semifinals of the CIF playoffs with a three-game sweep of Claremont on Friday.

The Los Angeles Lakers edged out a 108-105 victory over Utah on Friday to advance to the Western Conference Finals.  The Lakers will host the winner of tonight’s San Antonio versus New Orleans game on Wednesday night.

The Los Angeles Dodgers lost two out of three in the first Freeway Series of the year in Anaheim.  The Dodgers return home to face Cincinnati tonight, live on KHTS at 6:30pm.
