The first week of Foothill League basketball play came with some shocking upsets and a first time league leader.  On the boy’s side, the West Ranch Wildcats are 2-0 in league and now own sole possession of first place for the first time in school history.  The Wildcats defeated Saugus, 52-47, on Friday evening.  The Valencia Vikings stomped on defending league champion Hart, 82-55, in a game heard live on KHTS, and Canyon kept Golden Valley winless in league play with a 70-61 victory.

 

In girl’s action, the Vikings of Valencia ousted Hart, 62-58 in overtime.  Saugus improved to 2-0 in league with a 62-50 win over West Ranch, and Canyon put themselves in an early league tie with the Centurions, following a 69-44 rout of Golden Valley. 

 

Week two of league starts tomorrow night, and KHTS will have all of the action from Hart High, as the Indians host the Cowboys at 6:15pm.  Don’t forget to check back tomorrow morning for the first Lockheed Player of the Week of 2008.

 

The Los Angeles Lakers stretched their win streak to six games, defeating Memphis, 100-99 last night.

 

Former Brooklyn Dodgers pitcher and World Series MVP Johnny Podres has passes away.  He was 75.

 

The Los Angeles Kings defeated Dallas in a shootout on Saturday.  The Kings battle Edmonton tomorrow night, live on KHTS following basketball.
