The defending State Football Champion Canyon Cowboys Head Coach Chris Varner has announced the firing of John DiLuigi as Defensive Coordinator.  DiLuigi was in his second season as the coordinator, and fifth season as a Cowboys coach.  Varner will take over the defense for the remainder of the season.  John had already planned to move on after the season so he could follow the career of his son J.J., a freshman running back at BYU.  J.J. is Canyons all-time rushing leader.

In week five of girl’s volleyball Foothill League play, the Valencia Vikings continued it’s domination of the Foothill League, winning their ninth match in as many attempts with a three-game sweep of West Ranch.  Canyon swept Golden Valley in three games, putting the Cowboys in control for second place behind Valencia in the Foothill League.  The Hart Indians knocked off the Saugus Centurions in four games, keeping their hopes alive for the final automatic playoff bid.  The last night of games is Thursday, November 1st.

The Hart Indians defeated West Ranch in a girls tennis match yesterday, locking up second place in league for Hart.  The Valencia Vikings have already clinched league, and the Wildcats of West Ranch have clinched the third and final playoff spot.  The playoff birth for West Ranch is only the second in any sports for the Wildcats.

The Dodgers are expected to announce the hiring of Joe Torre to a 3-year deal to manage the team today.  Former skipper Grady Little submitted his resignation yesterday.

The Los Angeles Lakers suffered a devastating loss on opening night to the visiting Houston Rockets, 95-93, on a Shane Battier 3-pointer with two seconds remaining.

The Los Angeles Kings pick back up after a three day layoff, taking on the Columbus Blue Jackets tonight.  You can hear the game live on KHTS at 7:00pm.
