The first round of the CIF-SS Division IIAA boy’s basketball playoffs came with much better results than last years humiliating 0-5 performance from the Foothill League.  In a game heard live on KHTS on Friday, league champion Valencia overcame a slow start to knock off Crescenta Valley, 60-57.  The Vikings travel to Fullerton tonight in the second round.  Saugus defeated former league foe Burroughs, 72-53.  The Centurions travel to Bishop Montgomery tonight.  West Ranch won their first ever playoff game in convincing fashion, 75-64 over Chaffey.  The Wildcats host #1 seed Eisenhower tonight, and KHTS will have that game live at 7:15pm.  The only team to make it out of the wildcard round, Canyon, was eliminated by Cajon, 75-56.

Division IA girl’s playoffs started on Saturday, with co-league champion Hart beating Bellflower, 50-40.  The other co-champion was less fortunate, as Saugus lost to Dana Hills, 56-41.  Canyon lost at Mira Costa, 80-56.  Valencia lost at Mission Viejo, 51-48.  And to wrap up girl’s action, West Ranch lost at Foothill, 71-36.  Hart travels to J.W. North tomorrow as the lone representative of Santa Clarita left in the playoffs.

Boy’s soccer playoffs got underway on Friday, but all three Foothill League teams lost.  Saugus was the only team to score, losing in overtime to Montclair, 2-1.  Hart lost to Peninsula 2-0, while Canyon lost 1-0 to Villa Park.

Girl’s soccer playoffs started on Saturday, and the ladies picked up for the boy’s let down.  Saugus and Hart both shutout their opponents; the Centurions slaughtering Rialto, 6-0 and the Indians defeating Don Lugo 3-0.  Hart takes on Quartz Hill at Hart High tomorrow, and Saugus travels to Laguna Hills.

The Los Angeles Kings lost to Phoenix, 4-0 last night.  The Kings host St. Louis live on KHTS on Thursday night at 7pm.
