J.J. Holen Misses Cut in SCGA Golf Tournament

In the Southern California Golf Association/CIF tournament, J.J. Holen of West Ranch shot a 7-over par 79 at the Members Course in Murrieta yesterday and did not qualify for the CIF State Tournament next week.

The cut was 68. Kevin Dougherty of Vista Murrieta shot a 6-under 66 to lead all golfers.

The SCGA/CIF tournament was suspended because of a hail storm on Wednesday. When play resumed Thursday, Holen was 2-over par through five holes. He recorded two birdies on the second day of play, but had three bogeys and two double-bogeys in his final 13 holes.

The CIF State Tournament is Wednesday at Poppy Hills in Pebble Beach.

In high school track and field, the CIF State Track Meet begins today in Clovis with Saugus High School sending its biggest contingency of girls to ever race in the 3,200. Four girls, Karis Frankian, Stephanie Bulder, Anne Randall and Kaylin Mahoney, all qualified for the 3,200 state final. Randall also qualified for the 1,600 race.

Saugus teammate Daniel Swarbrick will compete in the discus and shot put and Valencia’s Aly Drake qualified for the 800.

The meet begins today and will conclude tomorrow at Buchanan High School in Clovis.
