Jackie Robinson Legacy Honored

On Friday, April 15, the Dodger’s honored Jackie Robinson’s debut during the Dodgers-Cardinals game. The Dodgers’ “team 42 Scholars joined Don Newcombe on the field to pay tribute to JackieRobinson. Then Don Newcombe threw the ceremonial first pitch to Matt Kemp.

All the Dodgers players and coaches wore the number 42 to commemorate the impact that Jackie Robinson had, breaking the color barrier.  The team auctioned off autographed Dodgers Jerseys to benefit the Dodgers Dream Foundation and the Jackie Robinson Foundation.  The Dodgers also donated tickets to the entire Crenshaw High School student body for their high school night.

Jackie Robinson was the first African-American to play in Major League Baseballl. He played his first game on April 15, 1947, as a first baseman for the Brooklyn Dodgers. He forever changed the face of sports, paving the way for generations of African American athletes.
