M.K. Kanke was three laps away from winning his fourth Stockcar Racing League Southwest Tour race when his car broke down at Toyota Speedway at Irwindale on Saturday night.
The driver from Frazier Park went from leading the race to eighth-place.
It was his worst finish of the year, but he was able to maintain his lead in the SRL Southwest Tour standings.
Troy Emish of Fremont won the race, his first of the year.
Meanwhile, in the NASCAR Camping World Series West, Greg Pursley finished second in Sunday’s race at Portland International Raceway in Oregon.
The Canyon High graduate was seeking his second win of the season, but finished one spot shy behind Jim Inglebright of Fairfield.
Over in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, Ron Hornaday Jr. won his third race in a row. The former Saugus Speedway champ who is driving for Kevin Harvick Inc. won Saturday night’s race at Kentucky Speedway.
